The Origin of Kemet

For countless ages, a being made only of stardust and cosmic light swam through the star-dark ocean of the universe. It was a witness to all things, watching the fiery birth of suns and the quiet death of countless worlds. But even for something so colossal, time was a cruel thief. The shimmering strands of raw power holding its gargantuan form began to fray and dim, one by one.

The pain was immense, an undoing from the inside out. With the energy binding it together dissolving into the void, the being could no longer keep traveling. It knew the final moment was upon it. In an act of pure will, a last desperate concentration, it drew every bit of its remaining life and matter—all the light and dust it had ever been into a single, tiny, perfect point. This point was meant to be a foundation, a defiant answer to its own end.

Where the colossal spirit had been, a new thing started to bloom. Raw elements and minerals slammed together, spinning into a fiercely hot, molten globe. Over millennia, the surface finally cooled and hardened, cracking into the first vast continents. Steam and moisture that clung to the atmosphere condensed, falling for centuries until they carved out the deep oceans. The very essence of that ancient being didn’t vanish; it soaked into the planet, filling the new world with a hidden, powerful, celestial magic.

Simple life first stirred in the shallows and pools, especially in places where pockets of the celestial energy still bubbled up to the surface. Prolonged exposure to these shimmering fonts of astral power helped things evolve and change faster, making life more advanced and more complex. Tens of thousands of years later, the first people walked the world. They built clans, then great cities, and wove a complex web of trade and budding economies.

The people living there today, who call their home Kemet in the common tongue, have no idea that their entire world is literally the remains of a dying god. The very ground they walk on is its bone and stardust. They would not exist if it wasn’t for that last, world-shaping sacrifice. Maybe one day, some curious researcher or bold scientist will find a way to unlock this history and understand the incredible, tragic origin of their home.
